What is a TENS Unit?

A TENS machine or TENS unit is a non-invasive electrotherapy device used to instantly relieve acute or chronic pain. Most TENS units feature 2 or 4 electrodes connected to an electronic power device with control settings. TENS stands for “Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation.” TENS units have been around since the 1960s and are used to treat a wide variety of different types of physical pain. These units are available in varying sizes with varying strengths for different uses. TENS machines can be purchased from pharmacies and drug stores, online, or from your doctor’s office. The smaller over-the-counter TENS units that are available online or over-the-counter at pharmacies are best used for mild to moderate types of pain. You should consult your doctor before using a TENS machine, or any other medical device.

To use a TENS unit, you simply place the electrodes, which attach using a sticky gel pad, to your skin at the location of your body where you are experiencing pain. This can be your upper or lower back, shoulders, joints, or even your abdomen in the case of severe menstrual cramping. Once turned on, the TENS unit sends electrical pulses through the electrodes into your skin at the site of the pain. These electrical pulses work to relieve pain by “confusing” your brain into no longer interpreting the pain while the TENS unit is in use. TENS units are a great way to manage pain without having to resort to taking over-the-counter or prescription pain medication that may cause unwanted side-effects.

How Is the AccuRelief Mini TENS System Different from Other TENS Machines?

While many TENS machines are bulky and difficult to use discreetly in public, the AccuRelief Mini TENS System is smaller and more discreet and portable than many other TENS units on the market. This means that it is easier to use and can be worn under lose fitting clothes without detection, allowing you to go to work or run errands without experiencing debilitating pain that may hold you back from experiencing life.

The AccuRelief Mini TENS unit is discreet, so no one has to know you are experiencing pain as you go about your day. This unit doesn’t have a bulky power box. It runs on one watch battery, which it located under the power button. The + and – buttons are attached by a short cable, and the electrodes snap directly onto the buttons. This slim design allows you to wear the device under most types of clothing.

The AccuRelief Mini TENS unit is also much more affordable than many of the other options out there. For mild-moderate pain relief, you might not want to spend a lot on a more powerful TENS unit. The AccuRelief Mini TENS System can be purchased online for about $15 and includes replacement electrodes.

This portable mini TENS unit comes pre-programmed with two different phases of alternating electrotherapy pulses for quick, safe, and effective relief, and 15 different adjustable levels of intensity.

The AccuRelief Mini TENS System is latex free, so it is safe for people with latex allergies to use.

How to Use the AccuRelief Mini TENS System

The AccuRelief Mini TENS System is very easy to use. The large + button is used to turn it on. To increase the intensity of the electrical pulses, simply keep pressing the + button until it reaches your desired strength. To lower the intensity of the electrical pulses, simply press the – button. This button is also used to power the unit off by holding it down for several seconds.

Be sure to power the unit off all the way before removing it from your body. If the unit is not powered off completely, it will start to beep after you remove it from your body.

You can save the plastic backing from the electrodes to put back on the electrodes between uses so that you don’t have to replace the electrodes between each use. Each electrode should last about 20-30 uses before the adhesive stops sticking.

Replacement electrodes for the AccuRelief Mini TENS System are available online, or at retail stores that sell the unit. The electrodes are very simple to replace. Simply unsnap the attached electrode from the device and snap the new one on in its place.

The AccuRelief runs on one 3V CR2032 battery, which lasts a very long time and can be replaced when it does eventually run out of power.

This discreet TENS unit is great for shoulder and back pain relief. It can be placed on your upper back, lower back, or shoulder – wherever you experience the most pain. Because of the small design, you may, however, require help from someone to attach it, and to adjust the settings once it is on you back if you have limited arm flexibility.

If you suffer from chronic upper back pain, lower back pain, or shoulder pain, the AccuRelief Mini TENS unit can help you to live pain free as you go to work, run errands, and participate in your favorite hobbies.

I have had excellent luck in using this mini TENS unit to relieve acute shoulder pain, even after over-the-counter pain relievers (both aspirin and ibuprofen) failed to provide relief.

Menstrual Pain

The AccuRelief Mini TENS System also works wonders for menstrual cramps, as well as lower back pain associated with menstrual periods. This TENS machine is an excellent alternative to taking pain pills every month for women who experience severe cramping during their period. Many women find that over-the-counter pain medication just isn’t effect for their menstrual cramps. Other women don’t want to risk experiencing side effects that are common with medication. The AccuRelief Mini TENS System may be more effective than pills in managing menstrual pain for many women. It also doesn’t put you at risk for side effects the way pills do.

I initially bought this TENS machine to try on menstrual pain, since it was cheap and nothing else worked. I have previously tried over-the-counter medication and heating pads, but they offered limited relief. This mini TENS unit is much more effective at instantly reducing pain from menstrual cramps.
