This Ayurvedic preparation uses herbs that are considered to contain potent, immunity-boosting, and energizing qualities. Chyawanprash is believed to both promote longevity and act as an anti-aging tonic.

About Ayurveda

Ayuvedic medicine, or Ayurveda, is a type of alternative medicine in the form of holistic healing. It's an old Indian or Hindu medicine that includes common practices derived from the Atharvaveda, which contains over a hundred hymns and incantations considered by many to be magical cures for diseases. Modern practices of Ayurveda include herbal remedies, oils, and certain surgical processes, among others.

What is Chyawanprash?

As mentioned, chyawanprash is an herbal tonic commonly used in India.

  • Other names. Chyawanprash can also be referred to as chyavanaprasha, chyavanaprasam, or chyawanprash rasayana. (The word "rasayana" means tonic.)
  • The concoction. The mixture itself looks like a dark brown jam. It's made using potent Ayurvedic herbs (like cardamom, cinnamon, or saffron to name a few). The concoction is brown, sticky, and tastes sweet, sour, and spicy.
  • Origins of the word. "Chyawanprash" is named after Rishi, or a sage by the name of Chyawan, who was the first person to prepare this tonic. The story starts off with the sage, who was quite old in the beginning. Then, however, he regained his youthfulness and vitality with the use of this herbal tonic.
  • Charak Samhita. Charak Samhita is an ancient Ayurvedic book written by Charak in the 4th century B.C. that includes the formula for this herbal preparation. In it, it claims that chyawanprash is the best and most effective of all herbal tonics available to mankind.
  • Popular brands. While you can easily make it at home, Dabur, Himalaya, and Zandu are some of the most popular chyawanprash brands sold in India and worldwide. Organic India also offers this preparation for the Western world.

Indian gooseberry, or amla, one of the main ingredients.
Indian gooseberry, or amla, one of the main ingredients.

This potent herbal tonic contains:

  • Amla, otherwise known as Indian gooseberry, which is the main ingredient. (Every 100g of this product contains 15,000 mg of amla.)
  • A mixture of Ayurvedic herbs, which include powerful herbs that are known for their health benefits. This list includes: ashwagandha, vidarikand or pueraria, long pepper, white sandalwood, cardamom, tulsi, brahmi, arjun, jatamansi, neem and many others.
  • Honey and clarified butter, which are mixed with the herb. In the end, it retains the consistency of a jam, which is why it's often referred to as a fruity jam with honey in it.

Health Benefits

Chyawanprash is safe for both the elderly and young children to take. It comes with many health benefits, which include the following:

  • Improves one's immune system. The combination of over forty herbs makes chyawanprash a powerful immunity boosting tonic. Amla or gooseberry, the main ingredient, contains 30 times more vitamin C than oranges. This is one of the main reasons why chyawanprash is such a powerful immune-booster. It protects the body from bacterial, viral, and fungal infections.
  • Healthy respiratory system. It promotes a healthy respiratory system, being especially beneficial for the healthy functioning of the lungs. This makes it an ideal and healthy herbal remedy for those with asthma and chronic bronchitis.
  • Great for digestion. This tonic does a great job at balancing stomach acids. It promotes the digestion of food and the absorption of nutrients into the blood. It also provides relief in constipation, reduces flatulence, and relieves nausea and diarrhea.
  • Benefits for your heart. This herbal tonic also promotes the healthy functioning of the heart. It is a powerful energizer for the brain and helps enhance concentration and memory.
  • Anti-aging features. It's also an anti-aging herbal tonic that can prevent wrinkles and graying of hair. Its potent antioxidant and rejuvenating herbs delays the aging of cells, provides proper nutrition, and promotes youthfulness and longevity.
  • Many other benefits. Chyawanprash also helps purify blood, stimulate the liver, and promote the elimination of toxins from the body.

Besides the above health benefits, chyawanprash also:

  • Enhances sexual potency and pleasure, keeps all the sensory organs healthy.
  • Improves one's complexion and strengthens hair.
  • Is used by bodybuilders for building muscles.

How to Use Chyawanprash

The mixture is often commonly taken with some warm milk.
The mixture is often commonly taken with some warm milk.

Recommended Dosage

  • One teaspoon should be taken twice a day — once in the morning and then again at night.
  • The sticky jam can be taken directly or it's often mixed with warm milk or water.
  • Others enjoy taking this herbal tonic by spreading it on a cracker or bread, as well.

Side Effects?

  • Weight gain unlikely. Many people are often concerned that taking this too often will lead to weight gain, because of the clarified butter contained in the mix. However, the ghee, or clarified butter, isn't the main ingredient and very little actually goes into it — it's there merely to ensure a proper mixing of the ingredients.
  • Burning sensations. Some people complain about a burning sensation in their stomach after consuming this herbal tonic, likely due to the strong herbs that go into the mix. You may experience this, and if so, drinking some warm (not hot) milk after taking chyawanprash will help soothe that. To avoid this, you can also start with half a teaspoon of the mix instead, take milk, and then over time, increase the amount to one teaspoon once your system gets used to it.

Chyawanprash is a overall a safe herbal tonic. People of all ages can take it safely for their health. In fact, children as young as three years old can take it. However, make sure to reduce the dosage for young children.

Make Chyawanprash an Integral Part of Your Health Care Routine

As you can now see, chywanprash can help promote many health benefits and it is safe to use for people of all ages. However, please note that it is advisable to consult a physician if you are on regular medication or have any chronic disease. Also, if you plan on incorporating it into the daily routine of your children, make sure you consult with their pediatrician first.

Also, to optimize results, you should look into introducing healthy lifestyle (a work out regime and eating a healthy and balanced diet in general) in order to get the most you can out of the chyawanprash.

Lastly, with all other articles of this nature, the contents provided here was for informational purposes only. It's not meant to be used or relied on for any diagnostic or treatment purposes. Please make sure you consult your health care provider before making any decisions or for guidance about a specific medical conditions.

I wonder the product does have a expiry date?

BetterAlive 2 years ago Author

Hi Winnie,

Thanks for stopping by!

An expiry date is present on all bottles of Chyawanprash. Ideally, you should keep that in mind.

However, you can still enjoy the benefits of Chavanprash after the expiry date since it is eatable even after that.

However, make sure to check that there is no fungus growth or the product does not smell or taste strange. If it does, just throw it away and buy a new one.

Hi im harry from india, im astonished by the health benefits of this product..But the only constraint for me is i am a vegan and i don't take any animal products..Knowing that it has butter mixed with all ingredients im just thinking of buying this product. Otherwise i am completely satisfied with the product. Any suggestions???

BetterAlive 2 years ago Author

Hi Harry,

Yes, chyawanprash does contain ghee or clarified butter, which is usually made of cow's milk. So, of course, while there are many health benefits of chywanprash, you can't have it if you are vegan.

But there are many other Ayurvedic products that you could try. For example, Triphala churna. Or just plain amla. Of course, there is nothing like chywanprash, but it is better to use something rather than nothing!

You can learn about triphala and amla at the links given in the article in the "Read more articles" section. I am sure you will find something useful in these 2 articles.

BetterAlive 2 years ago Author

Hi Akhtar,

Thanks for stopping by!

Dabur chyawanprash does not contain cow urine. If you are doubtful about it, you can check the ingredients on the label of the pack. Dabur is a reputed company and they won't add anything other than what is listed on the label.

So, rest assured there is no cow urine.

You mentioned the best time this is in the morning,, should it be taken before or after breakfast ? is there any + - to taking it on empty stomach?

BetterAlive 2 years ago Author

Hi Sri,

You can take chywanprash on an empty stomach with milk or after breakfast too. It totally depends on you. Most people suggest taking it on empty stomach for better health benefits. However, taking it on an empty stomach makes some people feel bloated and gassy. So, you can take it after breakfast.

Try it out yourself and see what works best for you.

You are doing right by taking triphala. Once at night should suffice. It will help tremendously with your diabetes.

If you still want to take chywanprash, you can try Dabur Chywan Prakash, it is sugar free. However, even then consult your regular doctor to see if it is OK to take it.

There is no harm in eating chyawanprash in summers if it is not causing any problems for you.

However, remember this is basically a medicine. So, if you are eating it too much, it may not be good for your health. Max 2 teaspoons a day are enough. So, you should think about controlling this habit :)

Can you please update if we can take chyawanprash in Summer Season as well ?

BetterAlive 2 years ago Author

Hi Kamal,

There is no harm in using chyawanprash in the summers. However, since the product is warm in nature, if you think that it seems to be generating excessive heat in the body, avoid it.

This means that if you notice unusual itching or rashes, or boils, on your skin etc, you should keep away from it, especially in the summer months of May to July.

You said bodybuilders take it also... what for?

Hi, I started using chyawanprash since one month but i got gastric problem and my stomach is getting hard and as well as i am gaining weight,

please advise me what are the other side effect by using it.

time being i stop using it.

BetterAlive 2 years ago Author

Hi Mohammad,

Chyawanprash can make you gain weight but not the extent that you become overweight.

It does increase your appetite, so you are probably eating more than usual and it is responsible for your weight gain.

It all depends on how much you have gained.

As far as gastric problem is concerned, depends on what kind of gastric problem. Are you constipated because of it? Or do you have diarrhea?

You could try triphala right before bedtime if you are constipated.

Try reducing the amount of chyawanprash you are taking.

There are no major side effects. In summers, it can lead to rashes on the skin because of the heat.

If you think the hot season is causing problems for you, stop taking it for now and use it in winters.

All the best!

Mohammed 2 years ago

Thanks for your quick reply,

BetterAlive 2 years ago Author

Hi Mohammed,

Chyawanprash usually relieves constipation and is good for digestion, but it is quite possible that your stomach is finding it difficult to handle. Try reducing the amount by half and see if it helps. Mix it with a little bit of milk and take it.

Does dabur chyawanprash by any chance cause pimples or boils...?

BetterAlive 2 years ago Author

Hi Aisha,

Chyawanprash usually does not cause pimples and boils. However, it can depend on the individual. Some people report getting boils when they take it in the summers.

Pimples may also increase because chyawanprash is trying to stabilize your hormonal imbalances. It may also occur because you may be allergic to one of the herbs used in it.

Try it out with cold milk in the summers. It may help.

Try it out for a few weeks and if it gets worse, stop it and try in the winters. The cold season is the perfect season to begin taking this product compared to starting it in the summers.

can i reduce my bad breath by using tribhala or chyawanprash?? plzz help me

BetterAlive 2 years ago Author

Hi Vicky,

Stomach problems can cause bad breath. So, firstly work on your digestion. Triphala will be useful for you. Take a teaspoon before going to bed at night with water.

Watch what you eat. Consume lots of fruits and vegetables. These will not only help you gain weight but help with your bad breath too. Drink lots of water. Avoid fried and spicy foods.

Also, watch for any dental or gum problems. Getting a dental cleaning done may also help.

Start using chyawanprash once your digestion is slightly settled, preferably in the winter months.

The dabur chawanprash contains abrakha Bhasma - generally bhasmas are made from heavy metals - please can you comment on

1) long term use of chawanprash and heavy metal poisoning

2) How much is the % of heavy metals / gram of chawanprash dose

3) how is the quality / quantity of Bhasma controlled ? in the formulation

BetterAlive 2 years ago Author

Hi Mangesh,

Your question is excellent.

No known serious side-effects of long-term use of chyawanprash have been reported. So, to say that the bhasma can be harmful for health is absolutely wrong.

If you check the list of ingredients on the label of the packs, you will find all details for amount included. It is usually quite low in most products.

It is also wrong to say that the formulation contains harmful metals. If it was true, many people would have reported having serious side-effects and long-term medical conditions because of usage.

As far as the quality is concerned, the exact process used by the different companies, such as Dabur and Zandu, is something that only they can tell you. However, if you have the interest, you could also try making chyawanprash at home and then you could actually control the amount as well as the ingredients included in it.

Lastly, chyawanprash is not new, it is thousands of years old. It is not a secret and everyone knows about its ingredients. So, to say that it is harmful rather than good for health is absolutely wrong.

I am 26 years old girl and having 48 kg, but I want to gain weight. Iam genetically thin so can this product help me gaining weight soon. Also I have stomach acid problem.

BetterAlive 2 years ago Author

Hi Sanam,

Chyawanprash helps you gain weight by improving your health. It provides you with a range of vitamins and minerals that boost your immune system and improve your digestion. So, chyawanprash is a good product for you.

You should, however, watch what you eat. If you eat too many foods that are heavy for the stomach then you may need to change your diet. So, avoid fried and fatty foods. Instead, go for foods rich in proteins and healthy fatty acids. Such as fish, eggs, chicken, and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Go for whole milk products.

You should also consider exercising. Go to the gym or just do some running, jogging or swimming.

This will surely help your stomach problem as well as help you gain weight.

Eating chyawanprash with warm milk will reduce Heatness even in summer?

And I'm 26years old which one is good to have it chyawanprash or triphala for all season?

BetterAlive 22 months ago Author

Hi Jabeen,

Warm milk helps in the absorption of chyawanprash. In summers, you could try lukewarm milk. Drinking lots of water throughout the day will also help. Also, fruits juices help a lot.

As far as triphala is concerned, it can be taken throughout the year. Most people do not have any problems with it, especially with the heat aspect.

Chyawanprash is an excellent health tonic and contains much more herbs than Triphala. So, you will need to choose yourself, which is better.

You could go for Chyawanprash in winters. If it causes problems for you in summers, replace it with Triphala in the summer.

BetterAlive 21 months ago Author

Hi Malang,

Chyawanprash will definitely help improve your immunity. Winters are a good time to start this. So, if you can begin taking it immediately.

Just make sure that you don't take it with any other medication as it may cause a reaction. Ideally, if you are taking a medication, consult your doctor about taking chyawanprash.

Which is the most authentic & genuine brand of chawanprash. Pl let me know.

BetterAlive 21 months ago Author

Hi Muzafar,

As long as the product is from a good brand, like Dabur or Zandu, it is fine to buy it from any site.

All the best!

BetterAlive 21 months ago Author

Hi Bhupinder,

It is very difficult to say which is the most authentic brand since none of them are made exactly according to the prescribed recipe or method.

So, the best thing to do would be pick one of the varieties, try it out, see which one you like better and stick to it. Dabur is one of the most popular brands, but Organic India and Hamdard are quite good in terms of nutrients.

i am a diabetic with BP. Taking regular medicines at morning and night. I too had minor heart attack but no surgery. Taking medicines for that too. I have Amla tree at my farm, recently I started taking Amla water, that is we cut 2 fresh Amla into pieces and put in water for whole night and take it in the morning, instead of this, can I try Ciyawanparash to maintain my health, can I take it with honey, please suggest for me...

BetterAlive 21 months ago Author

Hi Karuppu,

Since you are taking medications day and night, it is advisable to consult your doctor or an ayurvedic practitioner in your area before taking medicine.

While there is no harm in taking chyawanprash, the interaction of any of its ingredients with your medications could cause problems. Also, since it does contain sugar, your doctor may want to know about this.

Taking amla should not be a problem at all. In fact, you could also try Triphala, which is quite safe to take. You can read about it at the below link:

Hi Hozefa,

If you want to try chyawanprash, you could try one of the sugar-free varieties, although they are not as nutritious as the regular ones.

If you are looking for something specific for diabetes control, you could try Triphala. Read this article:

You could also try Ashwagandha for diabetes. Read this article:

Hi Azharul,

Chyawanprash shoudn't cause any problem. But if you are worried about it, try it for a month and see if your problem gets worse. If it does, go for Triphala or just amla instead. You can read about Triphala and amla in links given above.

My one year old son likes chyawanprash a lot , whenever he sees the bottle he wants to eat. i give him him often, is it ok for him? What will be the side effects if I give him regularly just half a teaspoon. Please advise, I use patajali's chyawanprash. THANK YOU.

BetterAlive 20 months ago Author

Hi Mamata,

Your child is quite young. So, it is probably not a good idea to give him chyawanprash. You should wait till he is at least 5 years old. Maybe if he likes the taste and insists on it, just give him a pinch of it, but not more than that. Once in a few days is fine, but avoid giving it to him regularly for a few years.

I buy chawanparash in orange flavour is it help in child growth? And i use it in summers or not in children?

BetterAlive 19 months ago Author

Hi Taha,

If you are using chyawanprash for a child younger than 5 years of age, you should stop using it. If older than that, it would be fine. Watch for the summers as it may cause rashes for children when the season gets very warm.

All the best!

taha 19 months ago

so chawanprash is not used in summers. It is only for winters?

BetterAlive 19 months ago Author

Hi Taha,

No, that's not true. You can easily use chyawanprash in summers too. You just need to be careful with children since chyawanprash is warm in nature and some children may develop reactions to it during the time when the temperature is high. Taking it with milk really helps.

All the best!

taha 19 months ago

Thnx a lot to solve my problem. I used chawanprash with milk already . my children are 14 and 8 years old. I want to increase their heights so is chawanprash helps to increase their heights

BetterAlive 19 months ago Author

Hi Taha,

Chyawanprash can help in the overall growth of the children. So, if there is anything that may be stopping the growth of their height (such as, lack of nutrition or illnesses) it can help by providing nutrition and boosting their immunity. But not otherwise. The children also need to be active physically and eat a good nutritious diet.

For your 14 year old, chyawanprash should not be a problem even in summers. But do be watchful for the 8 year old to see if he has any reactions in summers.

once in a TV show i have seen that there is side effect of Dabur Chayawanprash is if somebody long time take it may leads to cancer. Because Dabur Chayawanprash is made off by some powerful antibiotics. is this the fact or not correct ?

BetterAlive 19 months ago Author

Hi Bhaskar,

Dabur is a reputed brand and the ingredients used in its chyawanprash are included on its label. If you have any doubts about its ingredients, you can easily do a research on its ingredients. I doubt that there are any antibiotics present in this ayurvedic medicine. I think you should question the person on the TV show and ask him/her which ingredient is the antibiotic.

As far as I am concerned, I don't agree with this statement.

As far as cancer is concerned, chyawanprash is supposed to build your immunity against cancer and NOT cause cancer.

BetterAlive 19 months ago Author

Hi Kanchan,

Chyawanprash is not just meant to restore your health. It helps in maintaining your health as well. So, you can continue taking it for as long as you want.

If you want to stop it because you are taking some other medication or for any other reason, you can do so for a few days or even a couple of months. But you can always go back to it. There is no harm in stopping it or getting back to it after a few days. But, there is also no need to wait to be sick!

will it help for asthma, loos motion and gain weight?

mohamed 18 months ago

hi i am mohamed i have 3 doubtful question for you before using chyawanprash. so, please clear my doubts.

01. will it help to cure or control asthma?

02. will it help to stop loos motion?

03. will it help to gain weight?

i decided to use chyawanprash so, please clear it.

BetterAlive 18 months ago Author

Hi Hassan,

Chyawanprash will help with asthma and gaining weight. If you are having loose motions, it will depend on the cause here. If it's due to food or the water you are drinking, it may be necessary to first take steps to ensure fat- free food and contamination free water.

All the best!

BetterAlive 18 months ago Author

Hi Mohamed,

Yes, it will help control asthma and reduce asthmatic attacks. It will also help gain weight. For loose motions, please make sure that your food and water is healthy. If it is, then chyawanprash will help strengthen digestion.

All the best!

BetterAlive 18 months ago Author

Hi Saiyed,

Chyawanprash usually doesn't contain so much sugar that should affect your blood sugar levels. If you are too concerned about your diabetes, Dabur does have a sugar-free chyawanprash.

If you want something for your diabetes, amla juice or Triphala are quite useful for this purpose.

Since you do have diabetes, you should continue consulting your doctor while taking the herbs you are currently taking. Get a sugar level monitor and keep a check on the sugar levels yourself too. This is especially necessary if you are taking medicine for your diabetes.

In short, chyawanprash should not be a problem, but keep a constant check on sugar and stop if you notice any issues. If you have been taking it for long and your sugar levels fluctuate too much, try stopping it for a month and see if you feel better.

Does it helpful to gain weight....???

Arindam chowdhury 17 months ago

My father is suffering from lever cancer(malignant tumor) for 6 month.

He is taking aurbedic medicine for cancer. Can he use dabor chawampras?

He is 70 years old.

BetterAlive 17 months ago Author

Hi Udit,

Chyawanprash helps improve your immune system, your digestion, and almost every part of your body. So, it can be useful in helping gain weight as well. But do make sure to eat wisely as well. Eat foods such as mango and milk and eggs to add muscles and make sure to exercise as well.

All the best!

BetterAlive 17 months ago Author

Hi Arindam,

Sorry to hear about your father. I would really advise you to consult a cancer specialist and follow his or her instructions on this.

If the cancer is in the final stages and if that's the reason why your father is taking ayurvedic medicine, I would guess that you are consulting an ayurvedic practitioner for the same. I would advise you to please talk to the ayurvedic doctor about the chyawanprash.

Giving too many things to a person who is probably not able to digest most things is not a great idea. Only a personal consultation can help you get the right advice about what ayurvedic medicines to take.

I hope God gives you and your father the strength to cope with this disease.

Will chawanprash helps increase in waight ?

I want to increase ma waight plz advise us..

BetterAlive 17 months ago Author

Hi Sanjay,

To increase weight, chyawanprash can help. But you also need to take a look at your diet. Eat protein building foods, such as eggs or soya. Use whole-fat (full cream) milk, mangoes. In short, eat foods that help increase weight.

Also introduce exercise in your daily life. If going to the gym is not an option, try to do jogging or running, lifting weights, cycling. This will help build muscle, increase your appetite and increase weight.

Also, watch your digestion. If you have a problem there, find out why and take steps to improve it.

Is Bananas and eggs are sufficient for weight gain.....please advice

BetterAlive 17 months ago Author

Hi Sanjay,

There is a huge debate about bananas and weight. Some people say it makes you lose weight some say it makes you gain weight. But if you do want to use bananas for weight gain, try using it as a milkshake after breakfast or in place of your evening tea.

Mangoes are best fruits for this. It is mango season, so try out a mango milkshake instead of bananas and it will show results for sure. Also use pure ghee in your diet, such as in your lentils (dals), or with bread (rotis). Make sure to use whole-fat or full-cream milk.

Do include exercising in some form or the other.

Sarran 17 months ago

Im taking half an sp of chywanprash daily and then milk for a week but for past three days im having burning sensation in tongue throat chest n stomach is it due to chywanprash.. wat shld i do

BetterAlive 17 months ago Author

Hi Sarran,

You never know. It is possible that some substance in the chyawanprash is causing an allergy. It is also possible that your timing is just not right. The change in weather often leads to allergies and it could be because of that as well.

Try an experiment. Stop the chyawanprash for a few days and see if this burning sensation disappears. If it does disappear, it is possibly some substance in chyawanprash.

Wait for a few days for this burning sensation to completely disappear. Start chyawanprash again and see if the burning sensation appears again. When you start this time, drink lots of water, at least 4-5 glasses more than you usually do. Avoid hot drinks and spicy and fried food. Drink and eat cooling things, such as cucumber. If it still comes back, it is definitely chyawanprash.

If it is chaywanprash, avoid taking it during the summers for a few months and begin taking it in the winters. It should be OK. If you still have reactions, taking it occasionally may be the solution for you, not regularly.

Also remember, sometimes these symptoms may appear when you begin taking it. But when you continue taking it, they usually disappear in the course of a few days. But summers is not the time to try this experiment since this is anyway the season of allergies and infections and you don't want to take a risk with your health.

BetterAlive 16 months ago Author

Hi Mrinz,

Chyawanprash can help your wife get all the nutrients that she may not be getting from her food. It can help become healthier, gain weight, have a stronger immune system (reduced illness), and make her generally healthy.

So, let her try it out. But do make sure she takes care of her diet, that is, milk, fruits, a good serving of vegetables, etc. If you eat non-veg, go for chicken and fish and eggs. If you are a vegetarian, soya in all forms can be good food to eat.

Is it fine if a girl of 16 years takes chyavanprash as I've heard people saying it is harmful for a teenage girl to have it?

Second question

What kind of diet should be taken to prevent a body from gaining weight if while continuation of dabur chyavanprash?

BetterAlive 12 months ago Author

Hi Sana,

Chyawanprash is not harmful for a teenage girl. Chyawanprash balances your hormones and some people may develop pimples while taking it during the initial stages. Also, if someone has an allergy (known or unknown) to any of its ingredients, one may develop rashes or acne. The reactions are very much like what may happen when one takes modern allopathic medicines. So, there is nothing to be alarmed about. You can take it safely.

Also, chyawanprash does not make you gain weight. But if you are eating foods that make you fat, you will surely gain weight. There is nothing special that you need to do while taking chyawanprash to make sure that you don't gain weight. Just avoid fatty foods, such as fried and fast foods, eat lots of fresh fruits (not fatty fruits such as mangoes), drink lots of water, and stay active and exercise.

But make sure to eat right. Just eating anything will not help. You need to eat healthy foods. Use milk, fruits, fresh vegetables, protein-rich foods to gain weight. Also, exercise, it will help you gain weight. Please don't go go for fast foods, fried foods for the sake of gaining weight.

BetterAlive 3 weeks ago Author

Hi Sandesh,

I would suggest you stick to one variety. Although most chayawanprash have similar ingredients, there are often minor differences.

I suggest you choose one and stick to it for at least 3 months. Also, please don't base your decision on cost.

If you are confused, just check the ingredients of each. You can easily find these on the Internet and then make a decision. You can also check products such as Zandu which is also quite good.

Do share with us why you decided to choose one over the other.

All the best!

BetterAlive 3 weeks ago Author

Hi Dindo,

Please don't take anything without discussing with your doctor first if you are still taking these injections.

You can wait until you finish the therapy before taking chayawanprash.

If you are concerned about your liver, please talk to your doctor. He or she would surely be able to suggest something.

If you still would like to try something ayurvedic for your liver, you could try Triphala. But again, watch for any side-effects or reduction of the effects of your injections. If you do notice something like this, just stop taking it.

Hi, I am planning to take chyavanprash daily but am worried if the heat will cause hairloss, am already facing hair issues... Kindly clarify whether taking it will help me or make it worse

BetterAlive 11 days ago Author

Hi Ajay,

Chayawanprash will not cause hair loss. In fact, it will help in promoting health from within which will strengthen your scalp.

If you are worried about the heat, just start taking it once the weather becomes cool. Also, make sure to drink lots of water and eat seasonal fruits, at least 2 fruit a day. Avoid eating too much spicy and fried food since it generates heat.

You may experience some problems in the beginning as the body gets used to the product. But make sure to give it at least 2 weeks. It should be OK by then. If it keeps on getting worse, just reduce the quantity you are taking.
