Finally — An Effective Treatment for Keratosis Pilaris
My mother was concerned when she saw the appearance of bumps on the backs of my arms and inner part of my thighs so she took me straight to the dermatologist and discovered there was little she could do. I was diagnosed with keratosis pilaris, I must have been around five years old at the time. She also realized that my father had the same type of bumps, although they had a slightly different appearance—my bumps took on a more rounded appearance while my father’s where rougher. Either way, none of it bothered me, at least not until I got older.
I don’t remember either caring or noticing the keratosis pilaris bumps until I became a teenager. That was when I began to hyper-analyze almost everything about my appearance—I wanted boys to like me, and I knew that my appearance played a big part in attracting a boy. I also wanted to fit in with my girlfriends and wear stylish clothes, but my options were limited since I needed to hide my skin. I became self-conscious and stopped wearing sleeveless shirts in the summer. I couldn’t stop wearing shorts so I found longer shorts. I would always think about how awful the bumps appeared. I did notice that some other people had the same keratosis pilaris bumps on the back of their arms, and this made me feel less bothered, but only temporarily.
It wasn’t until college that my keratosis pilaris bumps started to get worse—they were no longer simply on the upper part of my arms, but they now appeared on my forearm as well. I began wearing long sleeve shirts even in the hottest days of summer. I hated it, I hated my skin, and I hated how my skin affected my self-esteem. What could I do? I managed. I loved when the weather cooled down so I could wear weather appropriate clothing and forget about my skin.
In the time between college and getting married my bumps decreased, they went back to appearing only on my arms and inner thighs. Then, I became pregnant, and this caused my keratosis pilaris to increase. This time, the bumps were beginning to appear on my calves. My frustration with my skin got worse, and there wasn’t anything I could do.
Thankfully, it was around this time that a good thing happened—a great thing! Keratosis pilaris wasn’t the only skin issue that I had—my skin was also very dry. I switched from using Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion to using Vaseline itself after bathing, but I also did something else—I started taking cod liver oil. I had begun giving it to my kids due to its “superfood” benefits, and I thought that this oil could help my skin as well. What a blessing! It helped—it helped a lot. Within a few months of taking cod liver oil almost daily (some days I would forget), my bumps started going away. My intention had initially been to cure my dry skin, and it did help with that, but my bumps went away too. I still get a few bumps here and there, but they were the only exceptions. I started wearing sleeveless tops. I stopped being self-conscious, and the burden of my keratosis pilaris has now faded into the past.
After suffering with the burden of keratosis pilaris for most of my life, I am finally free. I can’t tell you how freeing it feels to leave the house in a sleeveless top!
Also, I was afraid there would be lasting scars were the bumps used to be, especially on my upper arms, after so many years of habitually scratching the area, but thankfully the skin is fine. I am amazed at how my body can heal itself with the right ingredients.
I hope this helps you, if you suffer from keratosis pilaris, I encourage you to give cod liver oil a try, it is a super food that can only help you, and there is no risk.
Cod Liver Oil Capsules
Cod liver can be taken in liquid or in capsule form. I have taken both forms, and they both work. The capsules are easier to take because there is no measuring, and you don't have to taste the oil. Nature's Made Liquid Softgel Cod Liver Oil is one of the brands I have used with success. I highly recommend this item.
