What Is Candid Mouth Paint?

Candid mouth paint is an anti-fungal oral medication manufactured by Glenmark Pharmaceuticals. Its active ingredient is clotrimazole, an anti-fungal agent. The medication also contains glycol and glycerin. It is not toxic when ingested in small amounts.

Usage of Candid Mouth Paint

This medication is primarily used to treat the oral fungal infection called oral thrush— also called oral candidiasis—which is caused by fungal organisms of the candida genus.

Oral thrush causes creamy white lesions, usually on your tongue or inner cheeks. Sometimes oral thrush may spread to the roof of your mouth, your gums or tonsils, or the back of your throat.

Although oral thrush can affect anyone, it's more likely to occur in babies, the elderly, people with suppressed immune systems or certain health conditions, and those who take certain medications.

Oral thrush is a minor problem if you're healthy, but if you have a weakened immune system, symptoms of oral thrush may be more severe and difficult to control.

How to Administer Candid Mouth Paint

Apply three to four drops of Candid Mouth Paint onto the affected parts of the tongue around four or five times per day, preferably after meals.

Sometimes it is easier to apply evenly with a cotton bud. You should apply it over all the lesions in your mouth, and treatment should continue until all white patches in the mouth are eliminated.

Be sure to continue using the mouth paint, even if you feel better, until you complete the course of treatment recommended by your doctor

Side Effects and Problems Associated with This Medication

Some people may experience a burning sensation when using Candid Mouth Paint. In some rare cases, patients experience an allergic reaction to the ingredients of this medication.

In such a case, the person might develop itchiness in the mouth, swelling of the mouth, difficulty in breathing, and pallor. Should this happen, stop medication immediately and seek emergency medical attention.

This medication is safe if ingested. Other than the above side effects, it is generally considered to be a well-tolerated medication that can even be used in small babies.

Other Important Information

Keep all appointments with your doctor.

Do not let anyone else use your medication. Ask your pharmacist any questions you have about refilling your prescription. If you still have symptoms of infection after you finish the course of treatment, call your doctor.

It is important for you to keep a written list of all of the prescription and nonprescription (over-the-counter) medicines you are taking, as well as any products such as vitamins, minerals, or other dietary supplements.

You should bring this list with you each time you visit a doctor or if you are admitted to a hospital. It is also important information to carry with you in case of emergencies.

Warnings and Precautions

Like with any course of medical treatment, it's important to make sure you inform your doctor of your complete medical history. Before using Candid Mouth Paint:

  • Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to clotrimazole or any other drugs.
  • Tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription drugs you are taking, especially antibiotic medications and vitamins.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had liver disease, problems with your immune system, human immunodeficiency virus infection (HIV), acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), diabetes, or a history of alcohol abuse.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while using clotrimazole, call your doctor.
  • Tell your doctor if you drink alcohol.

Since you are seven months pregnant, this will not affect your baby.

Ideally you should wash it but it does not matter if you do it once in a while.

Maybe Aphthous ulcer, candid cream will not help. Use antiseptic mouth gel such as dentogel.
